Program Announcement

To our South Saint Paul Basketball Community,

Over the past 5 seasons we have strived to provide the best possible basketball experience while maintaining as cost effective registration fees. Over these same 5 years we have seen an increase in the number of registered players as compared to 2016 and with that we have seen an increase not only in operational costs, but in tournament fees that we pay to play in. With the natural impacts of COVID-19 in 2020 causing much of the world along with basketball getting turned upside down as we all navigate towards a new normal it has caused a need to increase costs. Our costs to operated are at a point that we no longer can offer the 1-6% fee increases that we are used over these past 5 years and with our average cost of tournaments doubling we at Packer Hoops had to take a step back and find the balance needed to play this season.

Many of the members on the association board have players that play with in the traveling aged group and we know how big these impacts are both personally and for the community as a whole. Below you will now see the updated cost structures for our traveling program along with other changes to the program. We have also added some potential new items that come along with your registration like a player’s clinic with the varsity players and coaching staff, we have also worked with the varsity staff to create a youth night specific to our traveling group at one of the upcoming varsity games. This night will be 4th – 8th Grade Traveling players only and will be your insight to what goes into game day at the varsity level all season long.

We have also made the choice to now have all jerseys purchased by those who register, thou this is an additional cost to the player this will allow for the player to own not only the jersey at the end of the season, but to also secure their jersey number going forward with in the program (4th-8th grade). These jerseys may be used in additional seasons going forward with no need to purchase a new one unless 1) It is not with in playing standards 2) The player out grows the jersey 3) The jersey is lost or miss placed and can not be found. We will offer the ability to purchase replacement jerseys at the start of every season, if yours fits and is clean physically (No wear and tear or stains) you are all set for the next season.

We have included all of the needed information HERE to help you better understand what’s included as well as cost break downs and cost comparisons over the past 5 years.

Thank you in advance and we look forward to seeing your player this season,

Sincerely,

Packer Hoops(SSPBBA)

Program Information

The Travel program is designed to give 4th-8th grade boys with more advanced basketball skills the opportunity to play against other communities at the highest level. This program is open to boys who live in or attend school in South Saint Paul.

Participating in travel basketball requires a significant time commitment from the player and their family and in most cases should be the player’s primary athletic extra-curricular activity during the travel season. We work to develop competitive basketball players by providing quality instruction, increased practice time and tournament play. We also strive to teach good sportsmanship, encourage team spirit and maintain humility. These goals require discipline, commitment and effort from participants, coaches and parents.

Playing time is not guaranteed and is earned by attending all practices (Excused reasons for an absence as defined by Packer Hoops will not impact playing time), working hard and appropriately engaged during practices and games will increase their chancing of more playing time as the season progresses. There may be times that no matter the amount of hard work or practices attended a player may not play as minutes as in a past game or as their teammates. This can be because of game time situations or based on a matchup or inability to substitute a player at a given time during the game.

Parents should be aware that there are additional costs for participating in the travel program that are their responsibility. Additional costs include uniforms, admission fees for tournaments that don’t operate under the No Gate Fee Model, expenses of traveling to and from tournaments, and overnight lodging and food costs at any or for any Packer Hoops scheduled tournaments.

At no time can a player who is rostered to a Packer Hoops (SSPBBA) traveling team play on an additional travel(ing)/AAU team during the Packer Hoops traveling basketball season.
